In the UK, Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day because it is the one day of the year when almost everyone eats a pancake.Pancake Day is the last day before the period witch Christians call Lent.In Canada,Australia,The United Kingdom,Ireland and New Zealand the day is also know "Pancake Day" as it is a common custom to eat pancake as a meal.On Pancake Day,"pancake race" are held in villages and towns across the United Kingdom.Partecipants with frying pans race through the streets tossing pancake into the air
and catching them in the pan whilst running. WHAT IS THE PANCAKE RACE?
On that day it is traditional to eat pancakes, toss pancakes and take part in pancake races.The friendly little competition between Liberal, Kansas, and Olney, England, with women running down the streets of each town flipping pancakes, has been going on for more than 60 years now.Pancake races are held all over England. The object of the race is to get to the finishing line first whilst flipping a pancake in a frying pan a pre-decided number of times.The Olney pancake race is now world famous. Competitors have to be local housewives and they must wear an apron and a hat or scarf.
